Children's Day Celebration!
There are two different types of Children' Day event in the world. The International Children's Day is celebrated in most countries, usually (but not always) on June 1 each year. The other is the Universal Children's Day which is held on the 20 November each year. Since December 14, 1954, United Nations and UNESCO observes 20 November as the Universal Children's Day.
The date 20 November, also marks the day on which the General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in 1989.
The Yak Chee School Children's Day is suppose to be held on the 19th October, but due to the School Building Fund Charity Concert, it was defer to 23rd of October 2007.

In conjunction with the Mid Autumn Festival, a lantern competition was held on the 23rd of September 2007 organised by the Persatuan Penganut Na Tuk Kung of Taman Puchong Indah, Selangor. The lanterns display are put up by the public and students who have participated in this competition.
Students, do take note that all the lanterns here are created using recycle materials. So the next time you before you buy a lantern why not make one yourself using recycle materials?

Mid-Autumn Festival
Mid-Autumn Festival which is also known as the “Zhong Qiu Jie” in Chinese, is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. This year it falls on September 25th. The Mid-Autumn is a time for family members and loved ones to congregate and enjoy the full moon – an auspicious symbol of abundance, harmony and luck. Adults will usually indulge in fragrant mooncakes of many varieties with a good cup of piping hot Chinese tea, while the little ones run around with their brightly-lit lanterns.
“Zhong Qiu Jie” most probably began as a harvest festival. The festival was later given a mythological flavour with legends of Chang-E, the beautiful lady in the moon.
According to Chinese legend, the earth once had 10 suns circling over it. One day, all 10 suns appeared together, scorching the earth with their heat. The earth was saved when a strong archer, Hou Yi, succeeded in shooting down 9 of the suns. Yi stole the elixir of life but to save the people from his tyrannical rule, his wife, Chang-E drank it. Thus started the legend of the lady in the moon to whom young Chinese girls would pray at the Mid-Autumn Festival.

In the 14th century, the eating of mooncakes at “Zhong Qiu Jie” was given a new significance. The story goes that when Zhu Yuan Zhang was plotting to overthrow the Yuan dynasty started by the Mongolians, the rebels hid their messages in the Mid-Autumn mooncakes.
During the Yuan dynasty (A.D.1280-1368) China was ruled by the Mongolian people. Leaders from the preceding Song dynasty (A.D.960-1280) were unhappy at submitting to foreign rule, and set how to coordinate the rebellion without it being discovered.
The leaders of the rebellion, knowing that the Moon Festival was drawing near, ordered the making of special cakes. Backed into each mooncake was a message with the outline of the attack. On the night of the Moon Festival, the rebels successfully attacked and overthrew the government. What followed was the establishment of the Ming dynasty (A.D. 1368-1644). Today, mooncakes are eaten during the Mid Autumn Festival to commemorate this event.

The PIBG is having another blood donation campaign on the 23rd of September 2007 (Sunday) from 9:00am to 2:00pm at the school assembly area. Once again, we appeal to those who are 18 years old and above to come forward for this blood donation.
The last previous blood donation drive have a total of 354 generous blood donors. For those who are donating blood for the first time, do not worry about whether you can donate your blood as there will be qualify doctors and nurses to check on your blood pressure, just make sure you get plenty of rest before the following day.

We are the champion again! Thanks to all the generous blood donors, our Yak Chee School came out first in the recent blood donation drive. This is the second time that our school achieves the highest blood donors among all the schools in the Petaling district. The previous record was in the year 2004 with 178 blood donors, as for this year 2007 we hit a record high of 354 blood donors!
On behalf of the school we hereby announce our deepest appreciation to all the blood donors who have come to the Yak Chee School during the blood donation drive. Your support is important to us and we hope that you can continue to do so in the future or in times of need.

Your contribution is is still needed as the school is still short of fund for the new building. How can you help? Simple, just give any amount of monetary to the school in order to increase the building fund. Contribution in kind* is also welcome.
Private companies and individuals that give donations, are actually contributing toward a better educated society and at the same time fulfilling their social obligations by giving back to the society. POSTER CONTEST!
Hey Kids! If you are in Year 4 or Year 5, then you can enter this poster contest! In this contest you must use the Microsoft PowerPoint as this is the compulsory requirement. Students, you may ask your computer teacher or your parent to help you, but the creative design work must come from you alone. Use your own ideas and start creating it now as time is short! (But do not forget about your coming examinations!).
The closing date for you to submit your work is 1st of August. All submitted art work will be judge by a panel of computer art teachers, based on the creativity work done using the software. As all the schools are only allowed to sent one representative, only the best selected work will be submitted to the next stage.
All right kids, here are the full details of what you must do.
1. You must use the Microsoft PowerPoint to create your colour poster.
2. Your poster size must be in A4 and it can be horizontal or vertical format.
3. The theme is "Semarak ICT Daerah Petaling 2007"
4. Your A4 size colour poster must be print and laminated together with a soft copy* stored in a diskette or CD.
5. Submitted it to your class teacher or you can sent to: [info at yakchee dot edu dot my] before 1st of August.
*The meaning of soft copy means that whatever work you have done on the computer are store in a digital format as opposite to the meaning of hard copy which means in printed form. You can only sent in your colour poster art work to us in soft copy through the email.

SERVICE BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY

A BIG Thank-you to all volunteers, friends, one dedicated teacher and the members of the PIBG2007 for helping out the task of putting a total of 80 units lockers in the classrooms. Carrying those lockers right up to the third floor of the school is definitely not an easy job! More than three hours of hard work were spend for this and also for repairing the school tuition chairs.
Picture here are the members of the team that carry out the job on the 21st of July 2007. Second from left is Mr. Peter Chang, our current chairman of Yak Chee PIBG2007. If you think you can contribute your time or service no matter how big or small, please do so as we need more volunteers in order to maintain the school.

THE NEW SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD
The New7Wonders organization announce today that the following 7 candidates have been elected to represent global heritage throughout history. All candidates are listed alphabetically and their order is not a reflection of the number of votes they received. The results include worldwide online, SMS and telephone voting. 
Teachers, please do remember to tell your students however that, the New7Wonders organization is not part of the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). These new seven wonders are not officially recognized by UNESCO.
The UNESCO have their own list which is called the UNESCO's World Heritage List. The World Heritage List includes 851 properties forming part of the cultural and natural heritage which the World Heritage Committee considers as having outstanding universal value. These include 660 cultural, 166 natural and 25 mixed properties in 184 States Parties.
In Malaysia, we have two places that are under the UNESCO's World Heritage List. Do you know which are the two, of our national heritages? Hey kids! The latest new version of Tux Paint is now available here! Go to your Students Section or download it from the Free Software Section. Download and start using it now! Tell your friends and your teachers about it!
Tux Paint is a free, award-winning drawing program for children ages 3 to 12. It combines an easy-to-use interface, fun sound effects, and an encouraging cartoon mascot who guides children as they use the program. Kids are presented with a blank canvas and a variety of drawing tools to help them be creative.
An additional artwork ("stamps") can be downloaded and installed, providing further a sticker-book functionality. Tux Paint has been translated into over 45 languages, and a graphical configuration tool for parents and teachers which allows Tux Paint to be reconfigured to suit the special needs of children or the classroom environment.
Note: We will ask the Edutech to implement the Tux Paint a truly free drawing program instead of the Kid Pix or their proprietary software Smart Draw. What we want is to encourage open source software to the students as an alternative to what they have been taught so that the they are not tied to any particular software vendor.
In the meantime, just look around this new English version of the official website and make sure you come back here often!

LATEST PHOTO NEWS FLASH! June 09, 2007 Parents are kindly reminded to inform their children to use only the zebra crossing when they want to crossover to the other side of the road. Parents must not stop their car in the middle of the zebra crossing as this is a no stopping zone either to get down or pick up your child.
Please follow the instruction given by the traffic wardens and constantly beware of children. Your co-operation is much appreciated. This is to ensure your child safety.
